At just 8 years old, Mari Copeny was fighting hard for clean water.

So...What is the Flint’s Water Crisis About?
Starting in 2014, Michigan faced severe lead contamination due to the change in supply of Flint, making the city's water undrinkable 😨😞.
The city switched 🔁 its drinking water supply from Detroit’s system to the Flint River as a cost-saving move 💰👍🏼.
Inadequate 😖 treatment and testing of the water resulted in a series of major water quality and health issues for Flint residents 📉.
Despite the water supply being highly corrosive ⚠️, contaminated and months of complaints from the residents about the off-putting taste of the water. The government officials neglected the situation, failing to treat the water and insisted that the water was safe 😟.
This poisoned ☠️ water flowing through the taps of Flint is foul-smelling 🤢, discoloured and is not drinkable 😫.
This has brought about disastrous 🔥 consequences, exposing 100,000 residents (especially young children 👶🏻👧🏻) to high levels of lead 😱, which could result in brain damage, skin conditions and even death 😵.
Someone made a change!
An 8 years old girl, Mari Copeny, wrote a letter 📝 to President Obama to bring attention to the water crisis 💧 happening in her hometown. Today, aged 13, she continues to fight 💪🏼 for water in her city and is a youth activist 🤓 who uses her voice to speak out 🔉 for many other social issues, helping the underprivileged.
Mari sent out 📮 that letter even though there wasn’t a 100% possibility of President Obama reading it. Anyone can make a difference, your effort can make a change 😎!
