Transforming a Day Desert into a Massive Oasis

What is happening in Israel? 😯

Just a few years ago, Israel was in the middle of its worst drought ☀️, facing severe water crisis ⚠️. Today, it has a surplus of water and has emerged as a leading country in water technology 🏆👍🏼. Israel has successfully solved ✅ its water crisis, through the combination of Conservation, Reuse and Desalination.

How did Israel solve its water crisis? 😱💯

1️⃣ The major breakthrough came with desalination, the process of removing salt from seawater. Desalination works by pushing saltwater into membranes containing microscopic pores. The water gets through, while the larger salt molecules are left behind. Israel’s first desalination plant was built in Ashkelon in 2005. Today, up to 80% of water for domestic use flows from large coastal desalination plants Ashkelon. With the largest desalination plant in the world - Sorek, Israel is able to supply clean drinking water🚰 to 1.5 million people! 🤩

2️⃣ Israel built up to 250 reservoirs to raise its recycled water from 5% to 85%.

3️⃣ Israel has supported educational programs👩🏻‍🏫 such as Green Horizons to teach young children the value of water conservation and how to help conserve water ⛑💦.

4️⃣ Lastly, in 2007, Israel increases its water efficiency by building innovative💡 water treatment systems that have the capability to recapture 86% of the water that goes down the drain from toilets and use for irrigation. 💯

Can you believe it? 🤯 They have transformed themselves from being one of the driest countries to an advanced water oasis in just a few years! 👏🏼This makes them the only country in the Middle East that is not acutely water stressed!!

We hope you learn something new today 🤪!
